Eating with the common-folk

Talk about a buzzkill...Snow White carrying her own cafeteria tray? Or Snow White in a cafeteria at all? This photo couldn’t be any more posed; there is at least one cast member representing each land, and the people in seats seem just a little too excited considering the only prop they’ve been allowed is a cup o’ joe. So what I want to know (besides the date of this, anyone?) is who’s the sourpuss with the cigar in the back? Looks like an evil number cruncher to me! See more vintage and current Disneyland photos on my main website.

What an awesome photo! It reminds me of movies in which people are wandering around a back lot, you always saw cowboys, indians, spacemen, etc. Kind of like in "Peewee's Big Adventure"!

Wonderful shot!

I wonder how many of the characters were able to eat? It is also a great PR piece to show how exciting it is to visit and work at Disney!

OMG! That's the Caff. I mentioned before. I can't believe there was really a picture of the little crammed room (part of the back of the Red Wagon Inn). I think that might be Vesey Walker. I remember him and the cigars. Later, they rebuilt the cafateria into a very large, more modern place, when they re-did the RWI into the Plaza Inn. A lot of collage studying went on at that corner table.

Posed or not, that is a really cool photo! However, how do you suppose spaceman plans on eating his lunch with that helmet on? Any guess as to what that black object is in the back by the coat hooks on the wall?

Whoa. Small Inn Between! It looks more the size of the Westside Diner almost, than the eventual size of the Inn Between. Darling photo!

The date of the photo is approx '60 or '61. Space suit has multiple rings around neck, and space man is guy I knew. Also, remember Snow White from that era. Indian is in a photo of yours dated Feb 1960 (but has winter costume). He is also in photo of June 1960 (almost same costume). "Thing" on back wall is the feathers worn on the back of the costume, and would have to be removed to sit. I also remember the lady sitting with the cowboy, and I think she worked at Pendlton in Frontierland.

I remember just outside the cafateria (door was just under that fan) was a covered patio with red wood benches and an old coke machine. It was the manual kind with small glass bottles (6 oz). It was not used much, so the cokes were frozen, like coke-cicles. Heaven on a hot day, and only a dime. The bottles were replaced back into a metal rack on the side.

Fun stuff! Can you imagine someone attempting to do the same at the ABC Commissary over at WDW?
