Trip to Disneyland: April 1965, Pt. 7

It should come as no surprise from the dour looks on these kids faces throughout the series that there isn’t a whole lot of fantasy in Fantasyland. This portion of the series begins on the Teacups. Away from their parents, twirling like crazy, they do seem to be exhibiting some sort of joy. Shot #2 takes the cake for one of the dumbest shots of the Matterhorn. I don’t take these photos, folks...I just post 'em. I guess the photographer couldn’t find the Kodak for dummies picture-spot sign.

Redemption does arrive for the photographer though, as he shoots one of my favorite areas of the past, Skull Rock Cove, appearing as if it is being christened by the Chicken of the Sea Mermaid.

Well, that’s it for Fantasyland folks. Our "tomorrow teaser" shows the raft of joy, heading over to Tom Sawyer’s Island. I promise more action in Frontierland!

So funny how the kids can never muster up a smile! It's as if they'd rather be doing homework.

One theory about why these kids look so cross: Maybe they're foreign visitors to the park. They definitely have something of a "Cold War/Eastern European/Soviet demeanor" about them, and the girl's dowdy headscarf seems somewhat out of place for an American girl her age in the mid-sixties. If you'd been looking at gray concrete for all of your short life, Disneyland would probably be more than a little hard to take in. The children of Russian dignitaries? Just a guess.
