Soaring Over The House of the Future

The guest who took this March 1960 photo perfectly captured an aerial view from the Skyway of the Monsanto House of the Future. Located at the edge of Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, this gigantic home of plastic stuck out like a sore thumb in Walt's original park. Today, flush with nostalgia, many miss this kitschy little peak into the "future."

Zooming in, you can see the paved road on the right, which allowed the Omnibus to journey further into Fantasyland, rather than merely stop at the Hub's circular path.

A colorful vintage Disney publicity shot; who knew that the future could look so romantic?

I remember going on this as a child and my parents didn't seem to be impressed. Of course as a child it didn't even register on the "fun" scale.

For me the fondness of this attraction is based more on nostalgia for a certain style of architecture more than the reality of this exhibit.

I notice the people in the publicity photo seem semi-transparent, as if they were ghosts (or added to the shot later).

Bryce - I believe that was a result of a long exposure because it was a nighttime shot.
